Famed Writer Henry Miller Begs For Monetary Assistance
MILLER, Henry (1891-1980). American writer and painter. Noted for his autobiographical controversial novels of sexual candor and self-realization.
He is known as the Father of the Beat Generation of writers. Miller led a bohemian existence that he write about in his novels; Tropic of Cancer (1934), Black Spring (1936), and Tropic of Capricorn (1939). These three books were prohibited in the United States on grounds of obscenity. They were frequently smuggled into this country building Henry Miler an underground following. Autograph letter signed, one page on the verso of a postcard postmarked May 17, 1955 to Mr. Herbert E. Stanton, Delray Beach, Florida. Miller writes: “Dear Mr. Stanton, It was very kind of you indeed to respond as you did under the circumstances. Thank You so much! Henry Miller.” In fine condition with light toning to half of the left side of the postcard.............$225.00
