BLASHFIELD, Edwin Howland (1848-1936). Great American artist noted for many important works including the great central dome of the Library of Congress, the New York Waldorf Astoria ballroom ceiling, parts of the Capital Building. Known as the “Dean of American Muralists.” Winner of many awards. Autograph letter signed, one page, Dec. 23, 1893 to Miss Atherton Pond. He writes in part: “Thanks for your check for eighty-seven dollars....payment for lecture. And at the same time let me thank you for your hospitable reception of me in Washington. The visit is a very pleasant memory. Sincerely, Edwin Howland Blashfield.” Anything signed by Blashfield has become rather scarce and to find his signature signed in full is extremely desirable.
