Winslow Homer Art Related Letter

HOMER, Winslow (1836-1910). American Painter. One of the foremost painters of the nineteenth century. Noted for his landscapes and battlefield illustrations during the Civil War for Harper's Weekly.

Art Related Autograph Letter Signed, one page, large octavo, Scarboro, Maine, October 3, 1901, to Mr. James B. Townsend.

Letter reads:
"Dear Sir --
My watercolors at
the Pan American
are already engaged,
& I have nothing
now under my control.
Yours Respectfully,
Winslow Homer".

Artist Winslow Homer created more than forty watercolor works from 1899 to 1900, in Bermuda and Nassau; 21 pieces were selected for display at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY (May 1 to November 2, 1901). The group of paintings were entitled "Scenes from the Bahamas and Bermudas" without individual titles. Many of the pieces now are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Letter shows minor soiling and wrinkling, age toning, with ink mark at bottom of letter near the signature. Overall, in very good condition. Letters from Homer mentioning his work are very rare and seldom available.
$3,450.00
