HOMER,
Winslow (1836-1910). American Painter.
One of the foremost painters of the nineteenth century. Noted
for his landscapes and battlefield illustrations during the Civil
War for Harper's Weekly.

one page, large octavo, Scarboro,
Maine, October 3, 1901, to Mr. James B. Townsend.

- Letter reads:
- "Dear Sir --
- My watercolors at
- the Pan American
- are already engaged,
- & I have nothing
- now under my control.
- Yours Respectfully,
- Winslow Homer".

- Artist Winslow Homer created more than
forty watercolor works from 1899 to 1900, in Bermuda and Nassau;
21 pieces were selected for display at the Pan-American Exposition
in Buffalo, NY (May 1 to November 2, 1901). The group of paintings
were entitled "Scenes from the Bahamas and Bermudas"
without individual titles. Many of the pieces now are in the
Metropolitan Museum of Art.

- Letter shows minor soiling and wrinkling,
age toning, with ink mark at bottom of letter near the signature.
Overall, in very good condition. Letters from Homer mentioning
his work are very rare and seldom available.
