- GAGARIN, Yuri. (1934-1968). Russian cosmonaut. Joined the Soviet Air Force
in 1957 and in 1961 he became the first man to travel in space.
A Hero of the Soviet Union, he shared the Galabert Astronautical
Prize with John Glenn in 1963. Gagarin was killed in a plane
crash during a training mission in 1968.

1961. Printed in Russian. Heavily illustrated. Boldly signed
in ink on the front free endpaper, Gagarin" in Cyrillic
script. Collector's note in Russian, in pencil, states this book
was signed at the Lenin Conference in Moscow 29-30 August 1961.
